As our Office Manager, Tara has been involved with the operations of Appraisals (Fundy) Ltd since 2003 and is regularly called upon to manage our fast-paced and deadline driven environment. A graduate of the Executive Administrative Program from the Business School of Compu-College in Saint John, Tara is generally the initial point of contact with the Firm. Not only is she relied on daily regarding our in-office administrative requests, her enthusiasm is also evident while dealing with the needs of our clients and business operations. Whether it’s her instilled generosity or outgoing nature, Tara on-occasion spoils us with her country baking, bounty of fresh eggs and of course her dad’s finest tapped maple syrup from the riverfront community of Kingston Peninsula, where she remains rooted with her family and friends.

Doug has been a fee appraiser with Appraisals (Fundy) Ltd. since 1982 and has been Vice President, including Principal of the Firm since 2001. A graduate of Miramichi Valley High School in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Doug Attended Holland College’s Property Appraisal Program and received his Certified Residential Appraiser, (CRA) designation in 1990. Doug is responsible for the Firms residential and small-scale multi-unit operations and contributes a wealth of experience and knowledge for his clients. His workload includes, appraisal review, matters relating to financing, dispute, litigation, insolvency, insurance matters and historical values among other disciplines and been declared an expert witness before New Brunswick’s Regional Assessment Review Board and Court of Queens Bench.

Benefiting from his belief in principals, Doug is currently serving on the Appraisal Institute of Canada’s National Peer Review Committee, reviewing work product, and advising members on compliance in accordance with the Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Practise, (CUSPAP). Doug has also been a guest lecturer for local lending institutions related to the need for appraisal assignments and the identifying the pertinent data in the reports. During his down time, Doug fostered a competitive recreational badminton career and remains an avid cyclist and adventurer who can be found enjoying our National Parks and coastal regions with his family & friends.

Michael joined Appraisals (Fundy) Ltd in 1988 as a fee appraiser and has been Vice President, including Principal of the Firm since 2001. His experience and workload is multi-disciplined and is regularly called on to complete assignments relating, appraisal review, reserve funds, insurance matters, multi-residential, industrial, institutional and various investment classes. Michael also consults in matters of dispute and litigation and has been declared an expert witness before New Brunswick’s Regional Assessment Review Board and Court of Queens Bench.

Michael started his career with the Department of Municipal Affairs, Property Assessment Branch prior to working with Ocean Steel and Construction in the Estimating Division. He attended St. Malachy’s High School in Saint John and initially began his post education in Business Administration at University of New Brunswick, transitioning into the Real Estate Appraisal, Assessment and Property Management Diploma Program at Loyalist College of Applied Arts and Technology in Belleville Ontario.

In 1995 Michael received his Certified Residential Appraiser, (CRA) designation and since 2003 he has held the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, (AACI, P.App) designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. He remains active in the Institutes National Committees, where he has served multiple terms with Insurance Advisory Committee, National Adjudicating Panel and is currently serving on the National Appeal Committee. Michael has instructed and presented workshops to the members with respect to the “Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Practice” and the “Professional Liability Insurance Program”. Mike enjoys his recreational time with his family & friends on the lake in Charlotte County and can be seen briefly on the network of snowmobile trails in the region during the winter months.

Steven joined Appraisals (Fundy) Ltd as a fee appraiser in 2021 and is a candidate member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada. He is actively pursuing his AACI designation through the accelerated learning offered by the University of British Columbia (UBC)’s, Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation program (PGCV).  In addition to his ongoing professional development Steven is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from SAIT Polytechnic, and a lecturer at University of New Brunswick, Saint John campus.

Prior to joining Appraisals (Fundy) Ltd, Steven was employed with a multi-national corporation in the region as an Accountant, and has been involved in roles related to business operations and market intelligence. Steven’s transition to the appraisal profession has been seamless and in a short time has made significant contributions to our team and welcomes the challenge relating to assisting in the multifaceted type of assignments we are regularly called on to complete. He has been a welcome addition to the Firm, delivering a broad range of disciplines, experience, and education.

Steven began exploring our region in 2015, migrating from Alberta after spending time as a general contractor and completing his bachelor's degree in Applied Management from UNB Saint John. His dynamic nature is reflective of his experiences over the years, whether leading and serving on wildland firefighting crews in the Canadian Rockies, volunteering in the coast guard auxiliary, or lending a set of hands internationally through rebuilding efforts caused by natural disasters. His volunteer nature has indeed fostered a variety of perspectives in a relatively short time. During his downtime Stephen continues to enjoy the natural attributes of our region, as well as keeping an eye out for his next renovation project to get involved in.

This competent individual offers a minimum of two years of university education, preferable in a business-related academic that will form the basis of continued education through the University of British Columbia in association with the Appraisal Institute of Canada in order to receive an accredited discipline. J.L. McDonaldJ.L. McDonald, AACI, SRPA  - Retired

Former President and founder of the company in 1969 and completed real estate valuation assignments throughout the Atlantic Provinces and Northeastern United States with extensive experience in a wide range of disciplines including commercial and industrial property types with emphasis on property expropriation and tax assessment appeals. 

Jim has held the accredited professional designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada since 1970 and since 1972 is a qualified member of the Appraisal Institute in the U.S.   Jim is also a member of the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers, International Right of Way Association and the Ontario Expropriation Association.  He is a past member of the National Recertification Committee established by the Appraisal Institute of Canada and a past member of the Complaints Investigating Committee for the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers.   In the past Jim has served as a lecturer for first and second year students of the Appraisal Institute and appraisal courses offered by the Saint John Real Estate Board, as well as guest lecturer for valuation courses offered by local lending institutions.

Jim is a qualified expert witness before the Court of Queens Bench, Province of New Brunswick; Federal Court of Canada; Assessment and Planning Appeal Board, Province of New Brunswick; Court of Revision, City of St. John’s, Newfoundland; and former Supreme Court of New Brunswick.

In addition to his appraisal work, Jim has authored a paper on “Injurious Affection – Impact of New Highway Development on Adjoining Lands” for the Province of New Brunswick.  He served two terms as a member of the Planning Advisory Committee for the City of Saint John and two terms as a member of the Dispute Advisory Panel established by the Federal Government pursuant to the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Act.  An avid sailor, Jim is also past commodore of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club.

Michael C. FleuryMichael C. Fleury, AACI - Retired

Michael received his accreditation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada in 1985. With his attention to detail originating from his diploma as an Architectural Drafting Technician in 1971 from the Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in London Ontario, Michael began his appraisal experience with Canada Mortgage and Housing, eventually retiring after 26 years as Supervisor and Manager of Appraisal Discipline. Over the years he has implemented his multi-discipline background and appraisal experience in completing a wide range of assignments related to major industrial, retail and office developments. His involvement in social housing, semi-annual surveys of apartment rental and vacancies, expropriation and industrial property tax appeals has been called upon both in-house and externally as a Senior Appraiser with the firm. As an expert witness before the Court of Queens Bench, in the Province of New Brunswick he has participated in a number of successful arbitration and litigation matters since 1997.
